What’s in store?

January 2, 2007

Well while I have spent a good deal of my blog time today getting things properly setup I have had a bit of a chance to think about where I would like to take things from here. Basically I have thought about the questions I have wanted answered in the past and in relation to some of them am still seeking an answer to.

I figured that in working through these questions that some useful information will emerge that hopefully will be of benefit to those of you reading this blog. I will have a crack at working through each one and will endeavour to provide some answers where I can. My real aim here though is to trigger some feedback and discussion and hopefully get things rolling along with the blog.

Anyway, here is what I am thinking so far…

- What actually is project management and how did it get here?

- What is a project methodology and how do they work in a creative environment?

- What makes a good project manager or producer?

- What are the best qualifications for a project manager or producer?

- What is a project management system and what should you be using?

- How do you manage and assign project resources in such a dynamic environment?

- Managing client accounts versus managing projects in an agency environment.

- How to work really well with your clients when creativity is key.

Anyway, it’s early days and there will be much more to think about that this. I’m very keen to spend more time thinking it through but I’m happy that this is a good place to start. If you are reading this post and have any further suggestions or ideas I’d certainly appreciate you letting me know.

A new year and a new blog – Welcome to Project Candy

January 1, 2007

Happy New Year and welcome to Project Candy. The main subject matter of this blog as you may have guessed from the title is project management. The aim of the blog will be to spend time looking at project management as a profession and provide reference to useful tools, techniques and resources that will help both practicing and aspiring project managers develop a better undertstanding of the practice.

There is however going to be an overarching theme to all of this and that is that I am going to be concentrating on the application of project management in the creative space. I am going to be looking at how it works, or sometimes doesn’t work too well in advertising, digital and other agency environments where creativity is key to the end product. In doing this, at the end of the day I hope to provide a greater insight into how project management fits in a fast paced, dynamic and sometimes emotionally driven working environment.

I’m certainly very keen to see things evolve based on your feedback so please post your comments and suggestions on what you would like to see. I’m also really keen to hear about the experiences of other project managers and producers working in a creative environment so please email feedback@projectcandy.com with your stories, anecdotes, ideas, frustrations, joys or anything else you would like to share.

Anyway, I am excited to be kicking things off with Project Candy and I’m really looking forward to it developing into a useful information source for all comers. Thanks for visiting and please keep in touch with all the latest posts by subscribing to the feed here
