Project Candy is being developed as a solid and dependable source of information and discussion for project managers and producers working in advertising agencies, digital agencies or other working environments in which creativity plays a big part in developing the end product. It aims to look at how project management works, or sometimes doesn’t work in a creative environment and investigate what sort of techniques can be applied to achieve a better result.
I had the idea to create Project Candy after having worked for many years as a project manager in this sort of environment and always finding that there was not much of a community built around project management in the creative industry. Whilst there are certainly solid and established project management communities such as the larger organisations and associations, they do tend to deal primarily with broader project management standards and focus on the more traditional fields of I.T., engineering and construction.
As part of looking at the development of a more solid benchmark that aspiring or practicing project managers can readily access and apply to their projects, I will certainly be researching how the practices and resources developed by these established communities can be applied to a more creative working environment. I will however also be looking more specifically at the current practices of actual creative agencies to establish how the principles of project management are being adapted for their operations. Further to this I will endeavour to seek out and share all of the available tools, techniques and resources currently in the market that have been specifically developed for the creative Project Manager.
Whilst Project Candy will be about sharing my ideas, experiences, and the resources I find useful, I would like to invite comments, feedback and input from other project managers working in a creative workplace. The more contribution that can be gathered from the wider community the greater the knowledge that can be shared here. So, please feel free to comment on any of the posts on the blog, or alternatively email me your feedback, experiences or the resources you find useful and I will happily incorporate this into Project Candy along the way.
Thanks for visiting Project Candy. I look forward to your participation in developing this as a great resource for the creative project management community.
